Tanya Jones - Chief Financial Officer
I have worked in the public and not for profit sector since 1993 and have been a member of the Chartered Institute for Management Accountants (CIMA) since 2010. During my career I have monitored and managed budgets ranging from £6k to £125m. All activity has been within regulatory frameworks, including Charities SORP, Academy Accounts Direction, Academies Financial Handbook, the Companies Act, the 7 principles of public life and FRS.
I have worked in the education sector for over 9 years in a variety of senior finance roles, starting as a school business manager in a maintained Nottinghamshire school. The school converted to an academy with E-ACT under a sponsorship arrangement shortly after I joined, and I was the local point of contact for the conversion. After 3 years as an academy finance director, I moved to E-ACT’s Head Office in London/Kettering for a few months to support the audit and work on their statutory accounts, and then spent a year as their first internal auditor. In 2016 I became the senior finance business partner for L.E.A.D Academy Trust in Nottingham, leading on the financial management and reporting for the trust. This included financial due diligence on the conversion of two maintained secondary school and transferring in one secondary and four primary academies into the trust’s finance systems and processes. In 2017 I became head of finance for a group of charities focussing on post-16 qualifications and CPD, and was promoted to Assistant Director Finance in 2019. My current role is Chief Financial Officer for Scholars Academy Trust where I am responsible for the management of all financial issues within the trust.
Prior to working in education, I was a civil servant for over 17 years, progressing to a senior management role in finance in 2008.
Anita Breeze - Trust Business Manager
I joined Scholars Academy Trust in September 2020, having previously been a School Business Manager at two other Primary Schools for almost seven years. Prior to this I worked for the Local Authority for 23 years working across Children and Young Peoples Services and Property Services. During my time with the Local Authority, working closely with schools provided me with an insight into the roles and responsibilities of teaching and non-teaching staff particularly in relation to premises management, maintenance, health and safety and the importance of safeguarding pupils.
My role is a strategic leadership role which provides a full business manager service to Heads of both Schools in the Trust. My responsibilities are to lead and manage in all financial, estate/premises and HR matters. My experience brings a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to the Trust which includes; resource and budgetary management, redesigning staffing models, benchmarking, contract negotiation, ensuring best value for money and improving efficiency and effectiveness across both schools in the Trust.
